Pilates
Pilates can help you with the rehabilitation of existing injuries, undo poor postural habits and proactively avoid future injury.
What is Pilates & how can it help you?
In a modern world where most people find themselves slumped over a computer for 8 hours a day, Pilates is the perfect way to undo all those poor postural habits.
Pilates is a series of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the whole body. The exercises use your own body weight and focus on body alignment/posture to achieve a longer, leaner body shape with significant improvement in strength and stability.
The movements and exercises focus on targeting the body’s core muscles: the abdominals, hips, buttocks, and lower back.
Pilates exercises are often recommended to help with the rehabilitation of existing injuries and to proactively avoid any future injuries. The exercises can increase balance and proprioception, and improve core strength. They also help with general body awareness and mobility.
Osteopaths and other professionals highly recommend Pilates for the above qualities, particularly for individuals who have a history of spinal or joint injuries.
Join us for our weekly classes with our lovely Nikki Fenton at The Albert Rooms in Horley or you can book a 45 minute 1 to 1 class at our Horley or Worth Corner Clinics.
1 : 1 Pilates Session
There are many reasons why you may prefer a 1 : 1 Pilates session as opposed to our group classes, but below are just some of the benefits:
These sessions will be about you, your needs, and your goals. After an initial screening session, our Pilates instructor will plan bespoke sessions for you to help you progress faster and feel the benefits sooner than you might in a group class. This may be beneficial to you if you are new to Pilates or haven’t exercised in a while. These sessions will give you the opportunity to become familiar and comfortable with the exercises and techniques, and the instructor will be able to give you immediate feedback and hands on corrections if required.
If you are recovering from injury or illness, or struggling with a persistent niggle, our Pilates instructor will ensure everything you do in the session will help you get back to normal function.
If you are undergoing treatment with any of our Osteopaths or sports massage therapists, they will also be able to discuss your particular conditions and individual requirements with our instructor.
Likewise, if you are returning to exercise after pregnancy, or are currently pregnant, our instruction is trained in ante-natal and post-natal Pilates and will be able to tailor your sessions to include specific techniques, like core strengthening and pelvic floor techniques.
If the idea of a group class in a daunting prospect, then the 1 : 1 sessions can give you the confidence in your ability in doing the exercises and enable you to eventually join a mixed abilities class.
If due to work or personal commitments you find the group classes do not suit your diary, with a 1 to 1 session you can select a day and that is more suitable to you. This could be a regular weekly slot, or as flexible as you need it to be.
Our 1 : 1 sessions with our instructor Nikki are currently bookable online, by email or by contacting your Receptionists.
